The Covid-19 Pandemic and your Pediatrician

During the Covid-19 Pandemic, we have maintained availability for our patients and will continue to do so until it is resolved.  We have prepared our staff and are following successful guidelines to prevent infection by the Coronavirus.

In Pediatrics, the Coronavirus has not been as severe when compared to those over age 65 and those with chronic health problems such as Heart Disease, Hypertension, Type 2 Diabetes and those with diseases that suppress the immune system.  In the USA, statistics     from the CDC show (www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019ncov/coviddata/covidview/index.html)
the lowest hospitalization rate (Birth to age 4years 4.1 hospitalizations per 100,000 children and from age 5 to 17 even lower at 1.9 hospitalizations per 100,000 children) occurs in the Pediatric age group.  Sadly, there has been 12 fatalities related to Cover-19 infection in children across the USA but all had a
pre-existing high risk medical condition. In the state of Missouri, there have been no Pediatric fatalities.

So we must continue to practice excellent prevention measures especially good hand washing and when able, wear a mask when outside the home, especially in large group areas.

Finally, West County Pediatrics is available to provide for all your children's healthcare needs including check-ups, sick visits, injuries and consultations.  If at the time of scheduling the symptoms of your child are highly suggestive of infection by Covid-19, we will bring the child to an exam room without entry through the waiting room to minimize spread of the Coronavirus.  We are requiring all visitors to wear a mask and are doing everything possible to minimize time in our waiting room both before and after your visit.  We at West County Pediatrics believe it is safe to visit us!  We are here for you!
